When servicing overhead HVAC units, the customer experienced several problems with their current sheet metal screw/receptacle fastening system on the service panels. These problems included:
- When removed from the panel, screws would drop down and become lost.
- The serrations under the screw head would damage the painted panels.
- Too much torque applied when tightening the screws put dimples in the panels.

Matdan designed a captive fastener with a custom thread that was not only cost effective when compared to the cost of a standard AB sheet metal screw, but could be utilized with the customer's large inventory of receptacles. Matdan incorporated a nylon wear washer to protect the panel finish and a custom retainer with built-in standoff in the receptacle to prevent dimpling of the panel.
